Houston Laser Hair Removal

What is laser hair removal?
Laser or IPL hair removal is a procedure where Intense Pulsed Light and Lasers are used to heat the area at the base of where the hair is formed, and the resultant damage reduces hair re-growth in the hopes of achieving permanent hair reduction.

How does laser hair removal work?
By targeting the pigment in the hair follicle, you can achieve laser hair reduction. Therefore your unwanted hair must be either black or brown since Laser hair reduction will not work on blonde, gray or white hairs.

The DermaTouch RN of Houston Pre-procedure overview:

  • For at least two weeks prior to treatment, do not pluck, wax, use depilatories or have electrolysis. You may however use a razor blade or an electric shaver to shave.
  • All cold sores should be completely healed. You may even be placed on an anti-viral medication.
  • Also all forms of tanning need to be avoided for approximately 6 weeks before the treatment and you should use sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher.
  • On the morning of your treatment, please have the designated area shaved of all hair. The less hair you have above the surface of the skin will allow the treatment to be more effective and comfortable. If not shaved prior to treatment, we will charge you to shave the area.

How many hair removal treatments will be needed?
Hair must be treated during a specific phase in its growth cycle which is called the active or anagen phase. So that all the hairs are treated during a growth phase, multiple treatments are required because hair grows in staggered growth cycles. The number and frequency of treatments vary for each individual and by body site being treated.

What are the risks with laser hair removal?
Redness or bruising may occur either around the hair follicle or in larger areas as the hair is being treated and the hair may also be bleached or singed. The redness usually lasts from a few hours to less commonly a few days. There is also no recovery time.

At DermaTouch RN of Houston, a consultation is required prior to all procedures for assessment and to give each client an accurate estimate of costs. Yearly maintenance may be required for newly emerging hairs. Remember you can earn yourself a complimentary treatment with a purchasing patient referral.
